No Matter Size Hollywood Spotlight? |
The stars may be overweight, and one aspect of success obsessed with Hollywood?
For a long time, the answer is no.
But lately, plus-size performers are confounding the conventional wisdom, not just a job, but landing the lead roles and price suppression.
Melissa McCarthy, Mike & Molly's CBS sitcom is a good example. McCarthy, 41, is a recent achievement Emmy for his work on the show, and two weeks ago, he hosted Saturday Night Live rave reviews. All this is on a standout performance in the blockbuster summer bridesmaids.
And today marks the debut of MTV's new reality show, Chelsea is deposited around 24 years old who weighs 325 pounds in Pennsylvania and moved to Los Angeles to try to make the fashion industry.
"It was really important for me to do the show because I had these dreams to work in fashion," explains the rules. "However, obese or morbidly obese prevented me from believing that I can continue a career because I do not think anyone would take me seriously. "
Does anyone? Tinsel Town is attitudes on weight really change?

weight really change |
"Three or four years, it was all about thin, thin, thin. And now we return to real women and it is considered just as beautiful, "said Melanie Bromley, West Coast Bureau Chief of Us Weekly magazine that covers the weight fluctuates regularly celebrities" because it's just that girls out there are interested in. "
Sherri Shepherd, 44, View co-host, who went 16-6 to miss the entire type 2 diabetes, agrees that the weight is always a hot topic. It is a delicate matter.
"They do not give older girls a chance," she said. "I think Hollywood has not caught up to real people. ... When I am heavy, photographers tend not to shoot so many years. When I lost that weight, so they took Photo. "
Editor says veteran Howard Bragman, "You have to look good."
Still tells young players: Your body is your message to the test, and today it is more difficult to hide, he's not perfect. "What has changed is now transparency in the world we live in," said Bragman. "If you're on the beach with your shirt, you can be sure that someone is going to be notified and your image." And it's online in minutes.
The gates are down
The definition of our culture of classical beauty are generally not included, plus size women. But pop culture seems to reflect reality more.
The list of major artists are significant: Oscar winner Kathy Bates (Harry Law). Emmy winner Loretta Devine (Grey's Anatomy is). Grammy Adele. Amber Riley (Glee). Sara Ramirez (Grey's Anatomy). Rosie O'Donnell.
"Barriers are breaking down because people are looking for archetypes that seem much more in the way America looks really," says public relations executive Michael Levine. "But the TV is in the transport device emotionally - brings us to a life of quiet desperation of our fairy tales and fantasy.
"It goes against major changes," he said. "So the dual forces of the way the world really is and how it can engage in a real fight."
Christina Hendricks, 36, who plays Joan Holloway on Mad Men Zaftigs, was known for her curves as much as his work with the show and said she was injured by the label of "big girl" in the media.
Behind the scenes at the Emmys, the Mad Men picked up the award for best drama, Hendricks was upset when a reporter pressed again his appearance. He said that solves the performance, and the series creator Matthew Weiner jumped to defend him. After all, he pointed out, no one says series star Jon Hamm, "Lift up your shirt and show us your abs."
Hendricks, however, also became a star in a show that is a set. This is no small thing. In addition, his film career took off - she's the star of the unit with Ryan Gosling and do not know how he does with Sarah Jessica Parker.
Attitudes are changing, said Josh Berman, executive producer of Drop Dead Diva, the Lifetime drama about a size 0 model in the grass dies and comes back into the body of a lawyer, as well as size. "You do not have to be perfect people, plastic, takes," says Berman. "It is up to other networks and studios to lure the most talented actors and not necessarily the Barbie and Ken dolls in the world."
Diva show concept might not have sold 10 years ago, he said, but the diversity of the media are now calling for creative people to be more realistic about the characters they create and present on the screen. "I immediately took advantage of a more open market for different types of older women."
Billy Gardell, 41, who plays Molly McCarthy heavy Mike says there is a place for everyone in Hollywood. He knows that the parties would never amateur action hero, even though they recently lost 25 pounds.
"You need a funny guy standing next to you? And 'the role for me," he says. "You guys are knock-down drag-out thing is what people want to see -.. Let the guy is a hero, but always the role of Everyman."
Jerry Ferrara, this role Turtle in Entourage on HBO. In six seasons he has been engaged in a fierce pack of guys in Hollywood. So over the last two years, he lost 60 pounds, to be quite another turtle, which engulfed the series running this summer.
Ferrara said Doug Ellin, the creator and writer main event, was injured. "We have seen each other for a month or two (and) said:" You could not wait another year? I did not even recognize you, "says Ferrara, 31 But it was worth it to start" healthy feeling, "he says.
Healthy, but still human

Healthy, but still human |
Healthy. This is the new motto. The new defense. The new target.
Demi Lovato, 19, appeared at the MTV Video Music prices in August after a period of rehabilitation and the majority of weight-related derogatory comments on Twitter. "Guess what, I am healthy and happy, and if you hate my weight, you obviously do :.)," she tweeted.
Comedian Carlos Mencia, 43, who lost 70 pounds this year, knows that it could damage his career (he has a special December 4 Comedy Central), but it was the Epiphany, when a friend told him there are people old fat.
"As a comedian, it's better to be chubby," he says. "Visible defects you have, the easier it is to sit the same people and you can get away with it anymore. ... But I wanted to be in good health, I want to play ball with my children, show them how to play football and not just to show them the video of soccer players. "
Singer LeAnn Rimes, 29, said he felt the pressure of his weight because he was a child - criticized for being too fat, and then criticized for being too thin. Damned if you do, damned if you're in Hollywood, where all eyes are still in the body, he says.
"I do not know why people have an obsession with body image and way of thinking that celebrities are not human at the end of the day," he said. "As we will not change and go through situations that make us eat, not eat. I think people sometimes forget you're a human being."
But for people in Hollywood, your body is your work, and most of the hard work out Slinky silhouettes. Gwyneth Paltrow, who is 39 and had two children, who often work two hours a day, and Hugh Jackman, 42, hates to work, but do it because it's paid for.
Carrie Fisher. Kirstie Alley. Sara Rue. Valerie Bertinelli. Kelly Osbourne. Star Jones. Seth Rogen. Drew Carey. Raven-Symon. Queen Latifah. Jonah Hill. Even Snookie. All were once abundant, now they are much smaller.
Fisher, 54, says she was inspired to lose 50 pounds this year, a spokeswoman for Jenny Craig because she realized she could not wear something in her closet and she was much heavier than famous mother, actress Debbie Reynolds. "It got to the point that it was really humiliating to be a part bigger than your mother," she said.
Mo'Nique, 43, who won an Oscar in 2010, Precious, it was customary to say that bigger is better, but the doctor refused, he told Oprah Winfrey (who had his own well-documented and profits for more than one years). Now he has lost about 50 pounds and works five days a week to lose more weight.
When Jennifer Hudson won the Oscar for Dreamgirls, in 2007, he signed with Weight Watchers and shed 80 pounds. Last month, we respect the magazine cover car, talking about how he did it.
"It's like a whole new me," Winfrey said. "Sometimes I do not recognize."
Medvene celebrity stylist Linda, who specializes in clothing size and most famous designers worked with the Marquise de Gabourey Sidibe, 28, looks like a "fairy princess" with a navy blue dress from Marchesa Oscars 2010, says it can be heavy and success in Hollywood.
"During the day, very thin and emaciated are over," says Medven. "People are watching an actor, performance, and not their body."
Size 0 is simply "not realistic"
Moreover, the size 0 look is not for everyone, we are told Bromley Weekly, because it does not always look good and it's not very practical. "For a normal woman, you can not afford to have a coach every day, you can not afford to have your meal delivered to your home every morning," she said. "It is not realistic."
Ashley Koff, a registered dietitian and nutritionist to the stars of CW loosening of marriage, and the Lifetime set of love handles weight loss: couples in crisis, says it's really healthy. It 'has become fashionable now the stars are saying they have personal nutritionists and dieticians in addition to personal assistants, trainers, stylists and chefs.
"I see a growing awareness and strong interest in health, affecting all customers," he said. He used his celebrity client will never recognize her in public. "The other day I went into a celebrity party and the three ran to me, (saying)" Let me tell you about my colon "and" That girl saved my life. "Now that surprised me."
No wonder? Some stars are not willing to dish their struggles with the scale.
Asked whether losing the plus-size roles, now that he has lost much weight, Money Ball star Jonah Hill, 27, was depressed. "Some play with (in the sphere of money), not matter how big I was. You can only play people," he says.
Ask casting directors, despite the conventions of Hollywood on weight and changed his voice, the American Society of casting, declined comment.
The downward trend, as many very large companies artists of the decade of 1980 and Ricki Lake as Tracy Turnblad in the Roly-Poly original 1988, Hairspray.
Today, 23 years, many television roles, a stint as a talk-show presenter and many, many books later, the lake loses again as a contestant on Dancing with the Stars, which began as a dance, but the competition has become a weight loss program again.
"The magazines how are you images," said Bragman, who represents the lake. "When Ricki has lost weight every week, we made an offer. Everyone wanted to put on the cover, as these are best-selling business."
Dancing with less weight
Lake, 43, used 4-5 hours a day of work and practice DWTS and the result is that she lost 12 inches in size, Bragman said.
But that's nothing compared to the 38 inches above the alley gosh obese has lost a step in the program. Now 60, the star weighed over 220 pounds, but she recently told reporters he had lost 100 pounds and is now a size 4.
So with all these stars excretion, are people like McCarthy and Margo Martindale (a veteran character actress won an Emmy last month to justify FX) just anomalies? Actor fully pursue a career as Sidibe without losing weight? (Then played a maid in the Ben Stiller / Eddie Murphy Heist Tourist Delete November 4)
Sidibe told Winfrey, was difficult to accept her body. "One day I had to sit with myself and I decided that I loved myself, no matter what my body looked like and what other people thought about my body," he said.
This is a question that you may be overweight, and successfully investigated by deposits. He knows, he criticizes his size, but he does not accept the hypothesis that all he has.
"The ideal number should be global, what you have and development and to make changes to live a long, happy, healthy life," says deposits. "We should, oh, we all need to be 2-dimensional."
There will always be the stars with fluctuating weight - is the bread and butter for celebrity magazines. However, Bromley said, "the day most girls who want to reach this figure is very thin, and it is thanks in part to pop culture and shows like Mad Men shows us you can be more beautiful or just beautiful with a few more pounds on your body.
